The objective of DAK-E – Danish Quality Unit of General Practice – is to improve the quality work of general practice.

DAK-E has several focus areas - one of them is the development of IT tools to be implemented in general practice. For that, DAK-E IT has developed the programme Sentinel Data Capture which can collect general practices' structured data - and afterwards delivers the data back to the practice in a systematic way in the form of various quality reports. These reports may form a basis for voluntary quality development work initiated by the general practice itself.

The use of Data Capture goes along with the use of ICPC diagnosis codes as the benefits from Data Capture to a great extend rely upon a consistent ICPC coding of all patient contacts. Therefore, DAK-E IT is also active in order to implement ICPC diagnosis coding in general practice.

Data are collected in DAMD – Danish General Practice Database – which is classified as a quality database in Denmark and hosted by the University of Southern Denmark.

Quality reports are generated individually for each general practice on the basis of the incoming data. Reports are available online when using the GP’s professional digital signature and this access ensures that reports can be seen only by the general practice itself.

It is possible for researchers to apply for data from DAMD thus DAMD also provides anonymous data for different research projects.
